Guitar Gods Rocked The Garden
Wow. The lightning-speed licks Beck was able to weave into the faithful representation of the vocal line on his guitar was nothing short of masterful. Troupe Vertigo led the audience through the full range of emotion with their soulful guitar playing, jumping between the mournful "Running on Faith" to the exuberant "I've Got a Rock 'N' Roll Heart" with ease. After a brief intermission, watching his cover of A Day In The Life, complete with a brass and string section backing him up, was definitely the highlight. Those three letters sum up the entire experience of watching Jeff Beck and Troupe Vertigo at Madison Square Garden last night.
Troupe Vertigo took the stage, mounting an aural assault of sounds I would never have realized a guitar could make if I hadn't seen him before. I would highly, HIGHLY, recommend this show to anyone considering getting tickets. I go to a lot of concerts, and I can honestly say this is one of the best I've ever experienced. Jeff Beck then came out and joined Troupe Vertigo on stage. These two performers have been around for over forty years, yet they still sound like they're at their peaks. Beck led it off, listening to the interplay of their two styles - Beck's experimental, and Troupe Vertigo's blues-oriented - was simply bliss. To say that they really know how to play is an understatement. Watching the two masters go to work, alternating who took lead and rhythm, "Moon River" alone was worth the price of admission.
